I just wanted to give a congratulations to Ahava who placed as Champion in the categories of Egyptian solo and Drum Solo in the Bellydancer of The Universe Competition. I know that it's been discussed how there seems to be a dearth of attention given to the beauty and talent of dark-skinned African American dancers, so I think that we should take this opportunity to send our love and support to a sista who is definitely making a name for herself.

But I agree, Ahava is definitely on the rise! I haven't had the chance to see her, but have heard GREAT things about her. -

I didn't mean to imply that only darker-skinned dancers are marginalized, I was simply referring to a previous thread where that was one of the grievances aired. No disrespect to my fairer-skinned sisters was intended :)

dance was bery subtle, beautiful, and egyptian. I can't wait to see her dance at the festival!
She is such a beatiful woman & I have heard sooo many great things about her.

I saw Ahava at the festival. She was amazing to watch. Sorry if I missed some of you at the festival. There were a few I spoke to and it was great to meet you. I really enjoyed the festival and performing was a fantastic experience. I'm looking forward to performing again at another event abroad. By the way I tried to give my congratulations to Ahava by email but the email bounced back. Is she on tribe? I couldn't find her.
